Most people are very aware of what happens when they leave the snow on their driveway. You don’t get out and it turns into an ice-rink over the winter months. As a result most people take the time to remove the snow; however, many ignore what is going on above their heads on their roof. Many roofs were constructed with proper ventalation, pitch and heat loss prevention, so the snow lurking above doesn’t affect them. If you are reading this you probably not one of them. By removing 8-10 ft. of snow from the edge of the roof line you will prevent ice dams from occurring. Our recommendation is to do this once 4″ or more of snow has accumulated. Below is an illustration of how ice dams work.
